I had such a wonderful time hanging with my friends and MOM this weekend. The weather was beautiful, so we checked out the Rose Bowl Flea Market in Pasadena-A must stop for me every time I am in La La Land!!! Yup, I HEART Vintage Clothing!

LA flea markets are the best! They're so much cheaper than NYC ones!!! I always find the best stuff out in LA, and at an awesome price!

This year I decided to do a Holiday Bowling Party instead of our annual holiday dinner. For most of us, it's been ages since we had last bowled or even hung out together. While most companies are cutting back and not having a holiday party, I feel it's important for us to get together and bond as a team. We ended up having a blast, and felt like little kids all over again....all on a low budget! Whoohoo!

It's been awhile since I'd bought an LV bag. I don't know if it's because I gotten over rockin the whole logo bag look, or I haven't found anything from LV worth splurging on. Well, looks like things are about to change. T Magazine from the NY Times released an image of the new SC bag, and I have to say, I'm really feeling Sofia Coppola's SC BAG for Louis Vuitton. It's super cute! I LOVE the shape, the size, and it looks so CLASSIC! This might be my first LV purchase in years =).

I've been trying to wrap up my Fall '09 collection over the past few weeks. I'm almost done, but I'm not fully satisfied with all the prints and bodies I have so far. This past Saturday, I stopped by the Manhattan Vintage Show to check out some of my favorite vendors and to also find some new inspiration to help me finish up my Fall '09 collection.

Business Tip of the Week: Always check out the flea markets, thrift stores, and vintage shows for inspiration. I'm always scoping out these places because you never know what cool pieces you may find! I've been inspired by items from cool prints on a rug, hand towels, vintage scarves, to cool artwork!

Autumn in New York

One of the things I LOVE about living in New York is that there are always cool art shows and exhibits to check out. This past week, the Chanel Mobile Art show was showcasing in Central Park. I was really mad at myself for not checking it out the last time I was in Hong Kong. So when I found out its next stop was NYC, I didn't want to miss it again. I made it a point to clear my schedule Friday morning to check it out. Here's how my morning went...

Woke up early Friday, and was having one of those LAZY days. Here I am rockin my winter lazy look-all about the leggings! Ran out of the house with a t-shirt, leggings, my favorite Jae Basilio sweater, and my comfortable Uggs. I'm all about comfort today....
Arrived to Central Park by 8AM....oh my, I can't believe I got up this early! Yes, history in the making for me...lol.
I arrived at 8AM and there was already a LONG line =(. OH NO!!! They said the wait would be at least 3hrs. I've been dying to see the show, but a 3hr wait? Oh my goodness!!!
I was so annoyed! 3hrs is way too long, so I left =(. Well, at least I saw the Chanel Mobile Art Show structure...sighhhhh. Click here to read about it.
Since I was already at the park, I might as well take it all in and enjoy the beautiful surrounding. Being around nature always makes me feel at peace. Sometimes I forget that I'm in a big city when I'm hanging out in Central Park. I pulled out my camera and started snapping away.

History in the Making...

Over 78 million people tuned in on Nov. 4th to watch the US' Presidential Election. Like millions of people around the world, my friends and I gathered together and sat close to our TV screen anxiously awaiting the results of this monumental election.

I showed up representing TEAM OBAMA! Goooo BLUE!

On my way to the party I saw this cool poster. That's why I LOVE Obama- He's our HOMIE!
It was a party in NYC. Everyone was either at a friend's apt or at a bar on election night.
Moosh and I picked up OBAMA Cupcakes for the party! They're so cute!
Oh my, we have an OBAMA look-alike at our election party! LOL
Everyone's glued to the TV! All our fingers and toes are crossed hoping to hear the good news!
When they announced that Obama won it was crazy in NYC. Everyone was screaming, cars honking and there was this bolt of energy that zapped the city! Such an experience to remember! I can't believe one day I will be telling my children about this historical night!

Time to enjoy the cupcakes! Go Team OBAMA!!!!!! Yaaaay!

I have to say, I thought McCain gave a great concession speech. He wasn't a sore loser!
I was in tears watching Obama's victory speech. Obama symbolizes CHANGE, HOPE, and INSPIRES all of us that anything is really possible. I can now tell my children that they too can one day be President.

Halloween in NYC is always so CRAZY! It's the one holiday in New York that everyone goes all out for. No one does it like New Yorkers when it comes to Halloween. Everyone dresses up in the coolest costumes and it becomes a BIG Party in the city.

This year, we were lucky that it landed on a FRIDAY! Whooohooo! It was such a crazy night to be in NYC. All the freaks came out and partied!

I started my night at the Halloween Parade in the Village. Not a good idea! It was such a madhouse down there, but so much fun seeing all the cool costumes!

I was a BAD ANGEL! I found these cool big feather wings the day before. Rockin it with cool fishnets, badass chick outfit, leather jacket and some devil horns!

Yumi and Mizu's Halloween Bash

There's no denying that New Yorkers LOVE their dogs. In NYC, dogs are practically like family to many of us. We make sure they eat well, dress well, and on some occasions they even get to go to doggy spas =)! Yup, New Yorkers spoil their dogs! I know, it may sound a bit crazy to some of you guys, but dogs are our babies in the city. Sometimes it feels like there are more people with dogs than parents with baby carriages in the streets.

Everyone knows Yumi is my baby girl, and sometimes she's even my boss...ha! So when Halloween arrived this year, of course I had to throw my babycakes a Halloween Bash at the YUMI KIM shop. Check out Yumi and her cousin Mizu's Halloween Bash below.

I'm sure you guys all know by now that I LOVE wearing vintage. One of my favorite looks to rock during the winter is a cute funky vintage sweater, black leggings, and a pair of vintage boots. It so happens, that this look is one of the biggest trends this fall- It's ALL about the 80's Baby!

When I'm not scouring vintage shops, thrift stores, and the flea market, I'm usually online shopping on Ebay or cool online vintage shops. One site I always check out is Nasty Gal. The girls there have a great eye, and they always know how to style the pieces together right!

This week, I'm obsessing over my latest project- SWEETHYPE.COM! I'm so excited to share it with all of you! You guys are the first to hear about it, before the public does =).

A few months ago, my brother introduced me to Digg.com (online social news site). I LOVED the concept of it, but didn't like the fact that most of the content catered to men. I was shocked that there was nothing out there for women. With the help of my brother and a few tech savvy friends, we came up with SweetHype, a site for women to post links to articles that they find interesting, inspiring, etc. I wanted SweetHype to be a ONE STOP SHOP for millennium women to share and read the latest scoops ranging from politics and the green movement to fashion and makeup. I see SweetHype as Digg's (Oh Kevin Rose-you are too cute! Sighhh...) cool hip girlfriend =)!

How SweetHype works: You can go on and share stories that interest you with other readers, or HYPE the ones that you like!

We just launched the BETA site this week! I want you to be the first to view it so we can work out all of the kinks before launching it to the public. Lately, I've been losing track of time because I've been working in overdrive mode trying to finalize my summer '09 collection. One thing about being a designer is that you tend to forget the days of the week and the months because your mind is always thinking way ahead. While it's freezing outside, I'm sitting in my apt trying on summer dresses and looking at floral fabric swatches. I tend to forget that outside of my walls it is wet, cold and gloomy.

Since the weather was so depressing outside, I wanted to rock a floral dress to make me feel pretty. I found this cute vintage dress in LA last week. As always, I hemmed it and rocked it my way=). My look for the day...

My outfit was inspired by one of the biggest trends this fall-Winter Florals. I wear florals year round anyway, because it always makes me feel pretty and it brightens up my mood!

I stopped by Sunny's Florist in the East Village to pick up a bouquet for Sarah before heading over to her baby shower. They make the prettiest bouquets at amaaazing prices! Most are $10! Sunny's stuff totally rocks! I'm always about supporting the neighborhood shops! Gotta remember to help out the little guys!

Tompkins Square Park Halloween Doggy Parade

Every year, Tompkins Square Park hosts an annual Halloween Doggy Parade. I flew back early so I could take the little munchkins to it. Gotta always make time for the little ones. Family always comes first in my book before work.

It was such a pretty day Sunday. Thank goodness, because Saturday was horrendous. I wanted to take advantage of the nice weather and wear a skirt. My outfit for the day....
Hundreds of people showed up with their dogs to Tompkins Square Park for the Halloween Doggy Parade! New Yorkers LOVE their dogs!

This year, Yumi wanted to dress up as an OG (Original Gangster) Rapper! Check out my baby rockin the gold chains, glasses and hoodie. Yup, she's keepin it real!

Maria Shriver's Women's Convention Rocks!

I've been invited to many business conferences, fashion events, industry parties, and music awards shows, but none of which I could say could ever top what I experienced this past Wednesday at Maria Shriver's Women's Convention. An estimated 14,000 women attended this star-studded event. I honestly had no expectations walking into The Women's Conference. I thought it was going to be another one of those women's empowerment conference with the long speeches and the same high-level executives trying to inspire the audience. Little did I know, I was in for a big surprise.

My outfit for the day...

I wanted to dress cute and comfortable, since I was going to be running around all day interviewing attendees and blogging LIVE from my sessions.

Jennifer Lopez was one of the opening speakers for the conference. I was only able to catch the last part of her speech (LA traffic, urrrghhh! Arrived too late, so I was unable to get a good shot of her. Sorry guys!). As always, Jen dressed head to toe perfection! Rockin the cute and conservative look.

Maria Shriver's Women's Conference- 14K women were there!

Next up, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Warren Buffett. Such a humorous conversation between the two of them. I have to say, listening to them talk about the financial state of our economy was better than any ECON lecture I ever attended in college. Warren Buffett is brilliant, which explains why the man is a BILLIONAIRE! His word of advice, "Now is the time to invest!" Interesting, I just wish we all had the extra funds too, Mr. Buffett =(.

I LOVED every minute of their conversation! Lots of laughter coming from the audience. I have to say, it was one of the biggest highlights of my day!

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger spoke like a true Republican. It was pretty clear who's side he was on. I respect a man who stands up for his beliefs. It's better to have an opinion than none at all right?

After the morning sessions in the main arena, I left with Calley to go do some LIVE BLOGGING. We were in charge of covering Heidi Klum's session- So You Want To Start Your Own Business. Other speakers includes: Willow Bay- Broadcast Journalist, Leslie Blodgett- CEO of Bare Essentials, Chiqui Cartagena-Author, and Ariane de Bonvoisin.

People who couldn't attend the event were able to log on and view our LIVE BLOG covering the session as if they were there! I uploaded images as I shot them and made comments as they were being posted. Yup, multi-tasking over here!

The panel had an hour long discussion about how they started their business and all the trial and tribulations they experienced along the way.

Business Tip of the Week from Heidi Klum: Heidi said she's fallen a couple of times. You're not going to always succeed at everything that you do. Just remember to pick yourself back up, brush yourself off and try again! I agree!

I met Heidi after the session. Oh my, she is a HOT MAMA!

After my session, checked back in with Abbie and uploaded all my pictures to The Women's Conference's site. It was pretty cool being a media person for the day...ha! I think I may have found a second career if fashion doesn't work out =).
Here I am blogging away about what's happening at The Women's Conference. Oh my, I am the biggest NERD! Shhhhh! That's why my friends call me a GEEK who's Designer Chic!

Maria Shriver opened up the afternoon session in the main arena with a POWERFUL speech. I have to say, this lady truly ROCKS! I LOVE her! So inspiring to listen to her talk. The whole room was moved by her speech. Lets just say there was a ton of sniffling going on, and I was one of them. Maria, you are something. Keep up the great work!

Oh my goodness, CONDOLEEZZA RICE was in the house! Geeez louise! I was lucky enough to be in the very front watching these ladies speak. Oh my goodness, such an experience to remember. The 2nd major highlight of my day! 2 of the most powerful women in the country, chatting in front of me about how they got to where they're at, and discussing how women should help each other move up and stop competing with one another! I agree!!!

Indra Nooyi, Chairman & CEO of Pepsi Co- LOVE this woman. She's sharp, smart. and witty! When I grow up, I want to be just like you =)!

Surprisingly, I was shocked that Condoleezza Rice had a sense of humor! I thought she was going to be this serious politician who was a tough cookie. Oh my, Ms. Rice actually had a few jokes. Did you know she wanted to be a professional pianist? Interesting facts for you guys =).

Afternoon Session-

HOW TO STEP FORWARD WITH CONFIDENCE!

Why am I not surprised they gave me this session to blog about? HA! Yes, I was the only fashion blogger there, of course it would be second nature for me to cover DRESS to IMPRESS!=). I have to admit, I was bummed that I missed out on Michael J. Fox and Russell Simmons' session. I heard it was amaaazing!

Rita Wilson and Leslie Jane Seymour were the moderators of this session. Pretty much the session discussed the importance of looking great, because it will make you feel great. They shared tips on how to update your look, and cool make up tips to make you look younger and feel better! Ladies, special tip-don't pass up on blush and wearing color. It always gives you that extra glow and wearing colors brightens up your mood!

And now onto the best part of the day, the evening session! Maria honored 5 Women this year that have made a tremendous impact in their community or for women. One of the Minerva winners of the night was the legendary tennis player, Billie Jean King, who fought tirelessly for women's rights.

Other Minerva Winners were: Betty Chinn (who had the crowd laughing and crying! You're too cute, Betty!), Gloria Steinem, Ivelise Markovits and Louise Hay. Congrats ladies!

After 30mins of lots of tearing, Maria brought out a special guest that got the audience excited! Oh my goodness, the rock star himself-BONO!

Bono discussed the importance of helping make a change, even in hard times like this.

He's so passionate about his RED and ONE charities!

Bonnie Raitt closed the event!

Yes, I think every woman walked out that evening feeling INSPIRED and EMPOWERED!

Wow, 12hrs later we're exhausted! I can't believe it went by so fast!

Maria Shriver's Women's Convention - Night at the Village!

A few months ago, my friend Abbie asked me if I would like to be a part of her online media team for Maria Shriver's Women's Conference in Long Beach. I honestly had never heard of it, and didn't know much about it, but I said YES anyway, because I'm always up for learning and trying new things, especially now that I am a BLOGGER =)! Abbie's been a big help on teaching me all the tech stuff, and on web 2.0. I'm just a nerdy fashionista new to the tech world =). You can never stop learning right?

Tuesday night was the opening mixer for The Women's Conference. I wanted to wear a cute floral dress. Here I am rocking my fall '08 Jessica Dress in the Daha print. My new favorite dress!

I checked in with Abbie and she had me blogging LIVE right away. OMG! Ok, I'm new at all this...."Just wing it!" I told myself. LIVE? That means no fixing typos & grammar errors..oh my!
First assignment, check out "THE VILLAGE" (tons and tons of corporate sponsors were there- free schwag!) area of the conference.

I walked around checking all the vendors and I would go back and blog about what I saw. I was so annoyed that I forgot my camera battery at home! I had to borrow my friend's camera...urggh! Not a good blogger so far..ha!

Whenever I'm in LA, I always hit up the flea markets. My best finds have always been at the flea market. I LOVE rummaging through the racks of clothes and the excitement I get when I stumble onto a great find!

I can't believe how warm it is in LA. Yaaay, I get to wear my favorite Dolce Vita sandals out here!
First stop, Melrose Flea Market! It's cute and small...not overwhelming like the Rose Bowl.
I always find the coolest stuff at the flea market!
I swear, it seems like I own a million pair of vintage sunglasses. I just keep losing them..ha!
My girlfriend, Melina, drove up from San Diego to hang with me while I work this weekend. Thanks, Mama, for understanding that I'm so crazed!

LA Market Week

Yup, I'm back in LA! I can't believe it's so freakin HOT out here. Oh my, 90 degrees in October. These people are so spoiled!

It's LA Market Week (buyers visit showrooms to preview next season's line and place orders for their stores). My schedule is jam-pack! First stop, visit my West Coast showroom, Ginny Wong, to see how things are going.

Ginny said good reaction so far with the Spring 09 line. It's doing very well! Yaaay!
Awwww, baby Olivia is at work with mommy! Oh my, future heart breaker in the making =).
I'm playing MOM for a few minutes...ha.
Hung out with the girls for a bit catching up on work, and some girl talk. Ginny was raving about this Bio-Oil. Ok, I'm gonna pick it up on my way home mama!

After a few hours of hanging out with the girls, we left to go do some vintage shopping. On our way there we happen to pass by one of my accounts...ONESIPKIM in Pasadena! I walked in and they had Yumi Kim on 2 mannequins. Yaaaay! Such a cute shop and the owner was so sweet!!! Maybe I'm being biased, because her name is also Kim? Ha!
Next stop...GOODWILL! I always check out thrift shops when I'm in LA. Once in awhile I find a few great pieces here. You never know what you can find at Goodwill. In the past, I found cool furniture, and a few killer vintage dresses!

I left Goodwill with a few shopping bags. I hit a HOMERUN! Found some good stuff I can't wait to rock!

Ok, it's getting late and I'm getting tired. We've been running around all day working! I'm starving! On our way home we stopped by Trader Joe's to pick up some healthy grub and a few bottles of their 2 bucks chuck!
I ended my night with yummy cheesecake. I HEART Cheesecake Factory!

WEEKLY OBSESSION: VERIZON BROADBAND ACCESS CARD

This week I'm obsessing over my Verizon Broadband Access card. I've been running around a lot lately, so my laptop usually goes everywhere I go. I LOOOOOVE the Broadband Access card because it allows me to connect onto the internet pretty much anywhere (except for up in the skies of course)! Yaaaay! That means no more stealing WIFI from people...ha! With this card, it's like I have a mobile office! Check out all the places I've been using it at this past week....

Met up with my friend at Slurp (they have the best lunch deals during the weekdays!) and stayed there afterwards to work for a bit.

Had a quick photo shoot the other day to update my website. Photo shoots usually last the entire day. I brought it with me to work in between shots.

My phone died the other night! I had no phone to call Moosh to let her know I couldn't make it down to the store in time for an interview due to traffic. Thank goodness I had my laptop with me. I pulled over and IM'd her to give her the heads up. LOVE IT!
I'm always running around from one meeting to another. It's great that I can work during my cab rides to the next meeting!
This is what sealed the deal-I can work at the airport while waiting for my flight! With all the traveling I do during the year, this makes my life so much easier! No more paying for internet at the airport! Whooohooo!
Arrived in LA LA LAND Friday afternoon and it was 90 degress...WTF? I can go on and on and on, ranting & raving about why I LOVE my Verizon Broadband Access card so much. It's so worth the $60 monthly fee. I now have a mobile office and can get so much more work done by having it! The best part is, I now can blog anytime...any place....anywhere! LOVE...LOVE...LOVE!!!

This past Wednesday, my friends Sachiko & Hugh hosted a small dinner gathering at their apt to watch the final Presidential Debate. Since it was the final round, I made it a point to clear my schedule that night. This is a historical election...I can't miss out on the final debate!

My outfit for the day-

I cleaned my apt and found this cool dress I bought at the last GEN ART event. I totally forgot about it. You can never go wrong with wearing all black!
Sachiko cooked up a big feast! You really went all out, mama! I always LOVE great food & great company!
I couldn't miss out on tonight's debate. History in the making!
I can't believe in a few weeks we will be voting for a new President. WOW!
I think we all walked away that night thinking about- Joe, the plumber! HA!
Ok, time to sweeten up and digest all that information!

Hugh surprised all of us with pop questions on politics and history. Uh, I wasn't prepared for it. Thank goodness I got a few answers right! whooohoooo! All I know is, I get first dibs on Hugh being on my team for the next Politics & History trivia session! I called it first, guys!

Later that night I reached for my phone to check my emails, but all I saw was a black screen. I tried to turn it on, pretty much did everything I could-no luck at all. Yup, my iPhone officially died on me =(.

I LOVE my iPhone. Whereever I go, she goes. I feel naked without her. Oh my....oh my, what is a girl to do without her iPhone? I called mac support...no luck either =(. I'm so bummed, because I had a few "important" #s in there that I just added to my phone the other day. I've been so bad, I haven't been syncing my phone. Oh my, everything is lost. I guess it wasn't meant to be. Sighhhh......
Isi started feeling sad too, because it reminded him of his iPhone =(.
Day #3 without his iPhone.

Sorry, Isi, your chicks will just have to wait. I hope you saved all their #s. Ha!

Time to run home, guys! My tummy is hurting from laughing so hard. Sachiko- I'm only allowed to hang out with you once a week! Once in a while I go through these weird phases of eating really, really bad food. When I say bad, I mean the whole works- pizza, fried chicken, dorritos, lots & lots of junk food, etc.. Well, this past 3 Day weekend was one of those phases. I was craving everything bad! So I told myself, "Kim, go EAT YOUR HEART OUT!" So I did =)! Here's the 3 Day Recap of my binge....

It's was such a nice day Saturday! I wore a cute fall skirt with a cami. So warm outside!
October 11, 2008 -Saturday Afternoon

I met up with the girls for May's Birthday Brunch at a cute spot in NOLITA (can't share it with you guys, because I don't want to wait forever for a table the next time I go. I'm keeping my mouth shut on this one!). Oh my, the food was amaaaazing! The shrimp taquitos---YUMMY FOR MY TUMMY big time! I can't wait to go back!

Afterwards we ended up in my hood..L.E.S! Happy Hour at PIANOS (my next door neighbor).

Oh my, $3 Frozen Margaritas. They were suuuuper strong! Maybe that's a good thing?
An hour later, we ended up ordering HOT WINGS, FRIED CALAMARI, NACHOS, and more JUNK! Didn't we just come back from brunch, ladies? Wow, we can sure EAT!

It was so nice to hang with my friends this weekend and catch up. I can't believe the last time I saw most of them was at my store opening party. Wow, time flies!

We ended up staying there for 4hours. Gotta LOVE NYC Happy Hour! Thanks,PIANOS! Sorry I had to cut it short, guys....I have a HOT DATE tonight!

SATURDAY Night: Date with Rico - MADONNA CONCERT

Rico invited me to be his date to Madonna. How could I say NO? I LOOOVE Madonna! Here we are eating bad..bad..bad food. That's the best part about going to a concert-all the JUNK food!

I had such a great time! I LOVE all the songs on her new album, and you can never go wrong with her classics! Madonna, you worked it, mama, and deserve every penny you make!

After the show we decided to take a walk since it was such a nice night. I LOVE walking in NYC, because there's always so much to see. I rarely hang out in Mid-town, so it was pretty cool checking out all the new spots that popped up in the past several years.

LOVE the decor of this spot! It's much nicer than the BCD TOFU house in LA, but not at LA prices..LOL. I wish!

SUNDAY- October 12, 2008

New Yorkers were spoiled this past weekend-mid 70s! SUNDAY was my first ME day in such a long time. It was so nice to just chill and hang out for a bit. I pulled out my fav Dolce Vita sandals and took the kids for a stroll in the park.

After a nice afternoon with the kids, I met up with Moosh for dinner at Congee House. I was craving their House Special Chicken--soooooo goooood! I LOVE going to Congee House, because it's so cheap and so yummy!
Oh my, we ordered so much food! We LOVE to eat! If you want to hang with us, you gotta LOVE food! There are a few things in life I don't hold back on....great food, great shoes, and vacations! As Rihanna say..."You gotta LIVE YOUR LIFE!"

MONDAY- October 13, 2008

COLUMBUS DAY!

Monday night I was planning on ordering in and catch up on some work. I have so much to do, because I'm going to be in LA for Market Week and for The Women's Conference (more details will follow) in Long Beach. Yup, the workload never stops, but I LOVE my job so it's not too bad, right? I get bored when I have free time on my hands. As they say, variety spices up your life!

Well, I thought I was going to be eating healthy at home....hmmm, I was so wrong! Moosh looked at me and said-"uh, it's 25cents Hot Wings and $3 Beer night down the street =)."

How could I say no to a deal like that?

LG PRADA II Phone

Last month, LG announced the sales of the LG PRADA phone crossed over 1 Million units (1 1/2yrs after it was launched in March 2007). Due to its huge success, we all speculated that the LG PRADA II would soon follow. Well, it is official, they're making it and it will be released by the end of the year...just in time for the holiday season! Like their bags and clothes, the new LG PRADA II phone will also come at a PRADA price tag- 600 Euros (approximately $813). WOW!

Unfortunateley, it will only be available in Italy, UK, France, Germany, Spain and Netherlands. No word on if this phone will make its debut in the US market....urgh! I guess there is too much competition here, the phone might get lost amongst the crowd (iPhone, Blackberrys, etc.) Sorry my fellow fashionistas, we have to wait...Sighhhhh.....

It's finally starting to feel like I have a life again. When Friday arrived, I was excited to call it quits and just chill out. I needed to take a few days off to just LIVE a little and enjoy life again.

Friday night Johnny called me to come meet up with him at the New Era store downtown for a small in store party he was shooting. Since it was close by, Moosh and I decided to swoop by to say hello. He also mentioned there was an OPEN BAR, so it wasn't hard to persuade us to go =). In NYC, OPEN BAR is always an incentive for many people to come out to an event. Hey, we're in a recession...this is what I call the lifestyle of a RECESSIONISTA (thanks, Elaine for the new terminology!) Gotta budget and spend wisely these days =).

I've been a big fan of Sonia Rykiel for years. I LOVE her quirky cute twists and usage of fun colors year round. Known for her knits, Sonia always made you feel "Oh, so happy!" when wearing one of her pieces. She's all about BRIGHT COLORS and being FUNKY FRESH!

Since it was SONIA RYKIEL's 40TH Anniversary, she made sure her show stood out amongst the rest of Paris Fashion Week shows. There were roses being thrown from the audience to girls dancing the night away on the runway. It sure looked like everyone was having a blast! The Never Ending Work Week....

Since the store opened last week, my life has been crazy busy! I've practically been living at the store trying to make sure it's up and running the way I want it to be. In a perfect world, it would run smoothly with no issues, but unfortunately, I don't live in that world. Everyday we're tackling something new. Yeah, story of my life. Sighhh......

Here's a glimpse of my life last week working in the new shop and in what I call "my new office." Ha!

It's getting chilly in New York, time to pull out my sweaters! Here I am rocking Jae Basilio! I LOVE my Dolce Vita sandals, who happens to also be one of my neighbors-yaaaay!!! I know I'm going to be doing lots of damage in that shop.

10:45AM:Look at this HOT MESS! We had to open and sort through 21 boxes of candles. I hate doing inventory count!
2PM, met with Mayra to reorder jewelry for the shop. I LOVE her stuff. It's suuuper cute!
7PM, in the YUMI KIM shop catching up on emails.

Wow, the first week flew by! Thank goodness there were no major issues...whew! I had a great time working in the shop and meeting my neighbors. It's been such a great learning experience for me. I have to say, it helped inspire me to design my Summer 09 in a different way now that I'm spending a lot of time in the L.E.S. I LOVE being in the Lower East Side! You ladies rock and are so fashionable!

KICK OFF SHOPPING EVENT

I wanted to dress cute and comfy for the event. My outfit...

10:30AM- I got in new fabric strike-offs of potential Summer 09 prints. Here I am draping it over me trying to visualize it as a long maxi dress. This is usually how I decide if I want to move forward with a print for my collection. "Hmmm, is this too much? Do I like how it looks as a dress?"

Coterie Trade Show 2008

I can't believe the opening party came and went.

We are officially open for business now...WOW!

The day after the party I stopped by Coterie to check out the last day of the show. It was so weird for me to not work it this time around. I always like being at the shows because it's a good way to see what registered with the buyers. One thing I learned from working the shows is that the items you least expect to do well sometimes become the biggest seller.

Business Tip of the Week: It's important to take notes and get feedback so you can keep it in mind when designing your next collection. You always gotta look at new ways to improve your product!

My outfit for the day....

Here I am at my booth getting some feedback from my team on the "HITS and MISSES" of Spring 09. So far I'm hearing nothing but wonderful news. Thank goodness! I'm so excited to hear that my buyers are LOVING the Spring 09 collection and that we had a BUSY show. Yaaaaaaay! Thanks guys! I really worked hard on this collection and I have to say, it is my favorite collection to date!
I always stop by my neighbors' booths to say hello and network!
ooooh, DEGAINE's booth was right across the way! I tried on Greg's famous "BOYFRIEND" jeans. He said "Kim, if you wear my "BOYFRIEND" jeans, I guarantee you will find a BOYFRIEND!" So I said-"SOLD,done deal! I want 2 pairs!" LOL

Awww, look at Twnz's cute little give aways! Too Too cute! You know me, all about spreading LOVE & good energy!
Ok, gotta run back to the shop and see how things are going. I'm such a control freak! Here I am working at my shop after the show. Gotta make sure everything is running smoothly!
We also have vintage goodies in the YUMI KIM shop! It's so hard to resist keeping all the good finds for myself!

Ok, time to head home. Yumi and Auntie Janet are exhausted! I know girls, it's been a long week!

It's been a crazy roller coaster ride the past few weeks. I can't believe I actually made it happen! I have so many people to thank. I owe my staff and friends BIG time for being there for me. Thank you so much for staying all those late nights and working those long days. You guys seriously are the best! I can't thank all of you enough for help making my dream come true! I am truly blessed to have such an amazing team and friends! I LOVE you guys!

The last 24hrs before my Opening Party will go down in history in my books. I seriously pulled an ALL nighter...NO SLEEP...NO MAKE UP and NO SHOWER= HOT MESS! I've been living off of RED BULL & lots of coffee the past 48hours. Oh my, I can't wait to get more than 3hrs of sleep. I'm in desperate need of a mini vacation!

I spent the entire day working in the new shop. I got home around midnight and went straight to work on YUMI KIM line sheets. I have to finish them before tomorrow's show. Urgggh!
We left my apt around 6am to Kinkos to print my line sheets. Arrived at the show to set up around 7:30AM. Thank goodness Jen arrived there early to take care of the big stuff for me. Thanks, JEN-you're the best!

By 9:30Am we were pretty much done merchandising the line. Now it's time to teach my sales reps the line! Awww....my booth at COTERIE 2008!

Me and my team! Thank you ladies for covering the show for me. I can't believe this will be the first Coterie show that I will not be working my booth. I have a store to open! Oh my, gotta run back to make sure everything is on time for the opening party tomorrow! I look sooo tired!

Gotta get back to work. Here I am at UPS trying to pick up 21 boxes of candles and goods for the new shop. How am I going to make it all fit in my jeep? I look so dirty...ha!
We spent the entire day preparing for the opening. My entire team, contractor, friends (moosh and janet--I can't thank you guys enough!) stayed late to make it happen!
I stayed back with ISI to merchandise the windows and the store. We finished around 3:30am. Isi, thank you...thank you...thank you! I finally made it to bed around 4am, and back up around 6:45AM. Yup, less than 3hrs of zzzzz's!
SEPTEMBER 17th, 2008

7AM- Met up with my contractors at the shop to go over things they need to finish

8AM- Met up with ISI at the flower district to buy plants and flowers for the shop

9AM- Picked up more rolling racks for the shop

10:30AM- Arrived back to the store to clean up and finish setting the store up.

11AM- My sign arrived....OMG!!! YUMI KIM has arrived to the LES baby! Sniff....snifff...sniff!
11:30AM: Looking over last minute details....
11:55AM....we're finished and ready for the opening! Whoooohoooo! Yaaaay YUMI, we did it!

Autumn Moon Festival Dinner

Since I was a child, each Fall I would go to the Buddhist temple with my family and celebrate the Autumn Moon Festival. It is a date that parallels the autumn and spring Equinoxes of the solar calendar. In most parts of Asia, family and friends gather together to admire the bright mid-autumn harvest moon, eat moon cakes and carry beautiful lanterns. Now that I'm all grown up, this year my friend Calvin and I decided to keep up with the tradition and throw an Autumn Moon Festival Dinner with our friends. Here are the highlights from our dinner that lasted for over 6 hours....WOW!

The party was hosted at TET, our friend Steven's Vietnamese restaurant in Alphabet City.

Whoooohoooo! Moosh is an official New Yorker now! No longer a visitor =).
Calvin was silly and hilarious as always. We had a poetry reading at the dinner party. Hmmm, don't ask me why....it was Calvin's idea...LOL! Well, I have to admit...your FISH SAUCE poem was classic! Oh fish sauce...oh fish sauce...how I love my fish sauce...LOL!
This is what Calvin calls Cock Head...hahaaha. You're so silly!
Yaaaay, Janet was in town to hang, help me with the new shop and prepare for Coterie. I always love it when she's in town. It's never a dull moment with this hot mama!
We had such a blast, our dinner lasted for over 6hours! We seriously shut the place down!
Thanks for a fab time guys! I definitely need a break from running around all week preparing for the show and the new store. Can't wait till next year's dinner party!

Hell Week!

I feel like the past 2weeks I have been going through HELL WEEK all over again. I barely slept, barely ate, and barely did anything except live at the new shop, and run around town taking care of all the things we needed for the shop. In the midst of renovating the store and preparing for Coterie, I still have to make important creative decisions for my Summer 09 collections. Urrrghhh, my workload seriously tripled the past few weeks. I have to say, I've never been this tired in my entire life. I looked like a HOT MESS majority of the time. You know what's the worst part of when you're tired, feeling ugly, looking so unfashionable, and stressing out? It's running into old friends, ex-boyfriends, and people you have secret crushes on in the streets...HA! Oh my, I seriously was a HOT MESS and felt too embarrassed and tired to explain why I was looking this way. Oh well, sighhhh.... Hey, I deserve a free pass once in a while to look like a homeless person, right?

SEPTEMBER 11TH, 2008

I have less than a week till my Grand Opening party and there is still so much to do! I showed up to my store today and my contractor has a cast on his foot. Oh my goodness, please no more delays!!! The walls still need wallpaper, floors needs to be done, dressing rooms are not all up....urgh!!!! I'm freaking out!!!

With all the craziness going on with the new store, I still have to take care of production and finalize decisions for Summer 09 prints. I'm so exhausted! I hate making decisions when I'm out of it, because when I get them back I end up asking myself-"What were you thinking, woman?!"

We used Allan's office to have lunch and work on production.
After my meeting with Allan, I had to run to New Jersey to pick up mannequins for the new YUMI KIM shop. Oh my goodness, check out all the mannequins they have there. It's so crazy! I got lucky and met a nice guy there =)! Check him out.....

On to the next thing on our list- GET SUPPLIES FOR THE NEW STORE. I LOOOOVE Target! This one is not just a regular Target....it's TARGET GREATLAND....oh my, oh my =)!

After Target, I have to run back to the shop to check out how much they finished. Word of advice when doing renovation- Always stay on top of your contractors or they will LAG big time!
Oh my, I've been up since 7am this morning. I need a break and some good food. A glass of red wine looks so good right now!

Ok, I have to put my head down for a few minutes to rest. When is this day ending?

Whooohoooooo! I didn't want to say anything weeks ago until everything was confirmed 100%. I've been super busy busting my butt working on renovations the past 2 weeks. That's why I've been so exhausted and tired! It's been so crazy balancing everything from my day to day business operations, designing, production, attending Project LV, preparing for the Coterie Trade Show, and now I have this HUGE project of opening my first YUMI KIM shop--all in one month...oh my goodness. I honestly wasn't planning on opening a YUMI KIM shop this soon, but this shop kind of landed on my lap. I took it as a sign and ran with it.

For Spring 09, Wang brought back the grunge girl a bit; she's just a little bit more polished and is sporting a little color =). I can't believe New York Fashion Week is already here...BIG WOW! I've been so caught up with work and my own thing that I haven't been paying attention to all the commotion that normally goes on in the city during NY Fashion Week.

It's been such a hectic week for me. I can't believe Coterie Trade Show is coming up and I still have 50 millions things to do up until the show...Urghhhh! This is a MAJOR show for me, because pretty much all my accounts (including international accts from Japan, Dubai, Europe, etc.) show up to preview the line. It's my one chance to showcase all of Spring 2009 at one time. That explains why I'm feeling a bit stressed. I'm still waiting for my salesman samples to trickle in and I still have to shoot a look book for it! I can't shoot anything until ALL the samples arrive...Urghhhh! I have a lot of pressure because Spring is always my biggest collection. To add onto the stress, yesterday I found out the Coterie set up is now the same day as the show 6AM-11AM, and then the show starts at 11AM. OMG- how crazy is that? We usually take 8-10hrs to set up, and now we're doing it in 5...geeez louis! Oh my goodness, I'm gonna be a HOT MESS that day. I'm so not looking forward to it!

With all the craziness of traveling, and preparing for the shows, I still managed to squeeze in a few social outings this week. It's been a week full of birthdays for me. Even with my busy schedule, I always try to make time for my personal life. A few nights ago, I stopped by my friend Angelique's Bday dinner. Johnny was hosting it, and of course he picked JOHNNY UTAH...uh huh. I was not prepared for it at all. I showed up wearing a cute vintage dress thinking it was going to be an intimate dinner. Well, a few drinks later, we all thought we were in Texas....LOL. Check it out....

I can't believe it's already SEPTEMBER...geez, where did time go? As soon as September hits and Labor Day passes, for most of us Summer is officially over. Boo hoooo hooo =(! It's a sign that it's time to start dressing for fall. It's time to pull out the sweaters, boots, and cute pieces to layer up.

While sitting at the airport the other day waiting for my flight back to NYC, I decided to do some online shopping =). What a nice way to kill time, right? I was searching for cool Fall pieces to add onto my wardrobe. I stumbled onto Costume Dept., a cool leggings company. I LOVE that they have such a good selection of funky prints to choose from. I would totally rock these hip leggings with a solid basic t-shirt...oh so stylish!

SPOTLIGHT: THE SATORIALIST

I've been a big fan of the Satorialist's blog for quite some time now. Scott Schuman started The Satorialist to share photographs of real people on the streets that he thought looked great. I LOVE how his photos always have a cool factor to it. The man has such a great eye!

Meet Scott Shuman.....such a handsome man!

Recently, he was appointed by GANT to document how 10 different New Yorkers would combine garments from GANT's Fall/ Winter 2008 collection with their own wardrobe. Scott hand-picked "real life" models, representing the different faces of the downtown New York street scene. Each of the models were then photographed by Scott at a selected downtown location that reflected their own individual vibe. Check out the results.....Keep up the great work, Scott...I LOVE IT!

WEEKLY OBSESSION: ME TIME!

This week, I'm obsessing over getting some "ME TIME." My life has been so crazy the past few weeks preparing for the shows. While I was in Vegas, I was living off a few hours of sleep every night & Redbull. Now that the Project Las Vegas show is over, I'm in desperate need of some ME time. Usually after every major trade show I try to run away for a few days to relax and recharge myself. It's so important to take care of your body!

I am such a California girl at heart. I LOVE laying out and getting some sun! Whenever I try to get away, I always pick places that are not major tourist spots. I'm around people all the time living in NYC, so when I need some ME time, I'm all about staying at secluded places.

As much as I LOVE the sun, it's important to always take care of your skin! Always wear a hat and lots of sunscreen!
I'm going to miss eating this....so YUMMMMY!

This is what I've been waking up to every morning. View from the living room...so beautiful! I still work whereever I go, but I LOVE my job so it never really feels like work.

I use my getaway as a time to reflect on my life and be at peace. Life can get so hectic at times that many people tend to forget to take the time out to take a deep breath and just chill. I make it a priority to escape once in a while from the craziness and make some ME TIME!

Business Tip of the Week:Whether it's a few days away on a mini getaway or an afternoon of pampering....try to make time for yourself! It's important to take care of your mind, body, & soul!

Almost time to head back to NYC. Sighhh.....

At least I know I will be back recharged, revived, and ready to hit the ground running! The next 3 weeks are going to be CRAZY! This is my busy time! I can't wait for you guys to see all the things I have in store the next few weeks =).

Till then.....I need to run and squeeze in a few more hours of ME TIME before it's time to head back to NYC!

Evening

It's tradition that after the show ends each day we go SHOPPING! It's a big stress reliever from a long work day =). I LOVE that there is a BARNEYS at my hotel. Guess what we find there? Jae Basilio on the racks...yaaaaay! Doing big things, Miss Janet. I'm so proud of you!!!

I can't believe just 1 1/2yrs ago we were in Hong Kong sourcing factories for you....sniff...sniff...sniff. Wow, look where you're at now. My little girl is all grown up! Here's to moving ONWARD & UPWARD! Keep channeling the positive energy =)!

oooh, we can't go into Barneys without stopping by the shoe department. Awww, the Givenchys I've been eyeing. So so sexy! Hmm, what am I treating myself to after the show?

Ok, the real reason why I LOVE staying at the Palazzo is GRAND LUX CAFE! People always assume I'm the type of girl who loves only fancy meals or eating at trendy restaurants. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE those places too, but there's nothing like good cheap food! I HEART their MISO SALMON and CREAM of MUSHROOM SOUP. I seriously had it EVERYDAY while I was there. The detoxing went out the window a long time ago =). LOL!

After picking up Grand Lux to go, we went back to the room to get some zzzzzzzz's. Gotta get some beauty sleep before it's time to go boogie down. It's our last night in Vegas...I know it's going to be a long night.

Awwww, I met Michael from revolveclothing.com. He's one of my West Coast accounts. I LOVE meeting my customers & buyers at these shows. You are uber cool, mister! It was so much fun hanging out with you! Sorry I wasn't able to make it to the after party. Cinderella was falling apart. Next time for sure!!!

We had such a blast! We were dancing soooo much and having such a great time! DJ VICE rocked it! Look at us....ALL SMILES! It's so important to surround yourself around positive supportive people. I LOVE my girls, they're the best!

Project Las Vegas Day #2

SLATE TRADE SHOW

I always try to attend different shows to check out what's going on outside of the Women's Contemporary market. I dropped by the new SLATE Trade Show to say hello to some friends and to also see what's going on in mens streetwear and skate clothing.

Stopped by 10.Deep to say hello, and guess who's picture is on the wall? Awww, ISI!
It's always a party in the men's section. I could never exhibit in this environment. It's too hard to concentrate and work!Check out these bags...ha! You know I'm a sucker for quirky things =)!Another group of people filming their own reality show. Guess everyone wants to be a superstar these days. Hmmm....I LOVE checking out the fashion at the shows. It's cool seeing how creative people get. Check out this guy's t-shirt.

After a few hours of walking around, I started to get hungry. Time to get some grub! This is what I usually eat during the shows. There's not much of a selection at the shows and healthy eating is a joke because it's usually no where to be found. I was craving nachos & junk food. I know, it's so bad! My secret to making it through the day is REDBULL!

Next stop, The Sourcing Show.

Thank goodness it's right behind the Slate Show. That's the one thing I don't like to do is run around between the different halls in the Convention Center. It gets too tiring trekking from one hall to another. As you can see, the venues are HUGE!

I always stop by the Sourcing Show to source new trim vendors and also see what's going on. You never know who's exhibiting and who you could meet there. Years ago I met my silk fabric vendor at this show, and till this day I still work with them!

Yaaaay! I found a new button & trim manufacturer! These ladies are from Hangzhou, an hour from the silk fabric factory I work with in China. How crazy is that? I'm definitely visiting their factory on my next trip. They had a HUGE selection and low minimums! Awww, I'm soooo excited and can't wait to work with them! This made my trip so worth it!

Ok, we need to sit down and rest our feet a bit. We've been walking around for hours. I'm starting to get tired. Here we are chillin with Humpty Dumpty! Moosh rockin YUMI KIM Fall 08 Andy Dress! I LOVE seeing my girls wearing my stuff!

Time to get back to the Project Show. I had such a productive Day #2. I have to say, it's been a great Vegas show for me so far. I've been working hard and also having a blast with my girls! I'm getting the best of both worlds right now!
